Love has something to do with acceptance, yes? The title of this post definitely caught my attention because it's very similar to the title of a book I just published: LAUGHING AT OUR SELF-DESTRUCTION: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Accept the Impending Collapse of Human Civilization: https://www.amazon.com/Laughing-Our-Self-Destruction-Impending-Civilization/dp/B0FVG29HY8
Oh boy! You really hit home with this post Jessica.
A hard kick in the butt to resume enjoying the hobbies I love instead of holding my breath every freaking day waiting for the next bombshell to explode.
Thank you!
I have a lot of work to do on myself. Time to get busy!
When I started Cyber-Tek back in 1990, I preached that the US was going to collapse in six, maybe seven, years. Glad I 'effed up that prediction. Anyway, as one survivalist writer to another, looking forward to seeing your future stuff. Definitely not enough of us taking this approach.
You will survive. I hope you have children, or help some children to survive also. It’s not clear who else will survive. Will it be the children of the ultra-rich? Or, will they be disemboweled by the people with the pitchforks who have had enough.
I have probably mentioned this before, but if you can find an early copy of John Seymour's 1976 book, 'The Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency', you will find a mass of practical information from small scale farming and managing animals, to fishing and even how to build a small fishing boat. John Seymour started out living on a barge (as do I!) and found a small farm in Wales, where he went self-sufficient and wrote his first books. Later he moved to a smallholding in Ireland, where he, his daughter and son-in-law (Will Sutherland) ran self sufficiency courses for years.
The later versions of the book are still worth having, but revised and rewritten by John's son-in-law, Will, and lack the quirky charm and drawings of the early originals.
I don’t love the collapse. In fact, I’m quite anxious about it, but I suppose my ancestors didn’t muddle through millions of years of nonsense for me to not attempt to live through the same. Like you said, reading articles about how much worse everything is faster than expected also doesn’t cause the fear to hit like it used to either.
I think there's a definition of "love" that isn't full of joy or fondness, it's just acceptance and familiarity. I've accepted it. I'm familiar with it. The collapse is simply the result and consequence of a sick society run by criminals. How can I hate consequences, or be afraid of them? In some ways, the consequences are what make sense.
Agreed that the consequences and outcomes are predictable after decades or not doing something. I’m at like 75% acceptance and hopefully I’ll get to where you’re at soon.

Great minds! I added your book.
It sounds like you have emerged and are now on the other side, can look at what is happening without an immediate visceral reaction, can objectively place it and begin to focus on life again. Congrats. We all need to get there. It means we will have a clearer view of what to do and how to engage going forwards. Agreed. If UBI were going to happen, we would have it already. Almost 100 percent of what comes from a tech bro's mouth is garbage.

Same here, but we're doing it!

This was one of the best pieces I’ve read in a while.
Good to hear!
